Celebrando o Dia Internacional da Montanha

O dia Internacional da Montanha, dia 11 de Dezembro, vem reconhecer a importância das Montanhas e a sua proteção para a vida na Terra. Este ano, celebraremos este dia com a primeira edição do Festival da Montanha, honrando e valorizando as montanhas de Portugal.
A Serra da Argemela será o lugar escolhido, uma vez que está em risco de ser destruída, desde 2017 com um projeto de exploração mineira a céu aberto para extração de lítio e outros minérios. Este tipo de mineração e exploração traz consequências nefastas ao ecossistema, contaminação da água, ar e solos e necessita de uma enorme quantidade de água, agravando assim a crise hídrica que se faz sentir na região e em Portugal.
A Serra da Argemela é banhada pelo Rio Zêzere, rio de tamanha importância e que abastece de água a cidade de Lisboa. A Argemela é conhecida pela sua história e riqueza natural, e rodeada pelas localidades do Barco, Silvares, Telhado e Lavacolhos. Traz com ela lendas, uma mística própria e adoração de muitos. Aqui vivem espécies de morcegos protegidos, javalis, raposas, corsos, lontras e, recentemente, foi recolocada como lugar de passagem do lobo ibérico. Esta serra tem vestigios de antigos povos, que datam a idade de bronze e, no topo, encontramos um antigo castro.
A população local urge por apoio, uma vez que o rio, o ar e os cultivos serão contaminados se este projecto de mineração avançar. A ameaça à saúde e qualidade de vida é iminente.
Ainda que, desde 2017 os manifestos da população tenham sido claros e efervescentes relativos a esta exploração, pouca voz e poder de decisão foi dado à população local.
Esta situação, infelizmente, não é isolada: 1/4 do território português está sob risco de prospeção e exploração mineira, colocando em risco as nossas florestas, águas e a saúde da população.

O Festival da Montanha vem como um chamado para nos unirmos pela proteção da Água e das Montanhas, para nos ligarmos à Serra da Argemela e ao Rio Zêzere e sermos a sua voz! Conhecer esta zona de tamanha beleza em Portugal, as gentes e a cultura que é tão rica e aqui ainda preservada.
Terá lugar no dia 10 de Dezembro, em Silvares, e dia 11, no Barco, com caminhadas, mercado regional e artigos em 2a mão, palestras e rodas de conversas, atividades para crianças, música e dança!
No dia 11, haverá uma caminhada desde o Rio Zêzere até ao topo da Serra da Argemela com paragens em locais de interesse histórico e geológico, e no topo teremos um momento de união e rezo coletivo pela sua proteção.

Caminhada pelo Rio Zêzere e a Ribeira da Caia, com reconhecimento de plantas medicinais e recolha de lixo.
Paragem junto à Ribeira da Caia com Círculo de Gratidão à Água, partilha de histórias e memórias ligadas à água.
13h00: Almoço na Escola de SIlvares
Mercado com Produtos Regionais e Ecológicos, Artesanato e Artigos em 2a mão, Bancas com Comida e Bebidas (Dia Inteiro)

Celebrating the International Day of the Mountain
Protecting the Mountains and Waters of Portugal

The International Day of the Mountain, December 11th, recognizes the importance of Mountains and their protection for life on Earth. This year, we will celebrate this day with the first edition of Festival da Montanha (Mountain Festival), honoring and valuing the mountains of Portugal.
Serra da Argemela will be the chosen place, since it is at risk of being destroyed, since 2017 with an open-pit mining project for the extraction of lithium and other minerals. This type of mining and exploitation brings disastrous consequences to the ecosystem, contamination of water, air and soil and requires an enormous amount of water, thus aggravating the water crisis of the region and Portugal. Serra da Argemela is bathed by the Zêzere River, a river of such importance that supplies water to the city of Lisbon. Argemela is known for its history and natural richness, and is surrounded by the villages of Barco, Silvares, Telhado and Lavacolhos. It brings with it legends, its own mystique and the adoration of many. Protected species of bats, wild boars, foxes, corsairs and otters live here and, recently, it was relocated as a place of passage for the Iberian Wolf.
The local population is urging for support as the river, air and crops will be contaminated if this mining project goes ahead. The threat to health and quality of life is imminent.
Although, since 2017, the population's manifestos have been clear and effervescent regarding this exploitation, little voice and decision-making power has been given to the local population.
This situation, unfortunately, is not isolated: 1/4 of the Portuguese territory is at risk of prospecting and mining to extract lithium and other minerals, putting in danger our water, forests and health.

The Mountain Festival comes as a call to unite for the protection of Water and Mountains, to connect with the Serra da Argemela and the Zêzere River and be their voice! Getting to know this area of such beauty in Portugal, the people and the culture that is so rich and still preserved.
It will take place on the 10th of December, in Silvares, and on the 11th, in Barco, with walks, 2nd hand market and regional products, lectures, activities for children, music and dance!
On the 11th Dec, we will walk together until the top of Serra da Argemela and have a moment to connect with this mountain and pray for its protection.

Walk along the Zêzere River and Ribeira da Caia, with medicinal plant recognition and trash collection.
Stop by Ribeira da Caia with a Water Gratitude Circle, sharing stories and memories connected with the water.
13:00: Lunch at the School of Silvares

14:30 pm: Activity for Toddlers and Grown-ups!
